Throughout our Club’s more than thirty years of service to the CNY running community, we’ve always recognized the importance
of providing opportunities for children as well as adults to learn about and participate in the running sports. This is illustrated by our commitment
to welcoming children in virtually all of our annual events, from all-comer track & field meets (indoors and out) to road races involving a variety of distances.
Children get to toe their own starting line at the Syracuse Festival of Races
In many cases we adopt formats that encourage children to participate along with their parents. Our Thursday evening training runs
at Onondaga Lake Park (June through August) are preceded by a 400m run for younger children. The
Syracuse Festival of Races and the Willow Bay 5K
feature awards for parent-child family teams. The Hess Express Swamp Rat Races and the
Cazenovia 4th of July Foot Races include
one-mile fun runs that attract a mix of children and parents. And the Festival of Races each year attracts thousands of school-aged participants,
older family members, and school staff to run and walk together in the United Healthcare Child Health Plus 3K Fun & Fitness Run.

Staff and campers for the summer's Track and Field Day Camp
Our indoor youth program is conducted in the comfortable confines of Syracuse University’s Manley Field House from December
through March. On one or two evenings each week, knowledgeable Chargers volunteers work with children possessing a wide range of ages,
experience, athletic ability, and competitive interests. The emphasis is on teaching fundamental goals, techniques, and rules, as well as engendering
a love of the sports of long distance running and track & field.
